For those of you that do not know me well, today you will learn a little more. I grew up in a small town up in the country/mountains (Nevada City) and every year in August, we have our local county fair.
Growing up, it was the highlight of our summers and also the marker of time as school would start just a few short weeks after. Now as an adult, I still get so excited to go each summer and of course to take Danica to expose her to some small town fun. The Nevada County Fair is set in a beautiful location as it is amongst all the tall pine trees, grass and red dirt. Your feet will get dirty! I really love that it still brings everyone home for a small bleep in the summer and acts like a general reunion for our small town.
This year was extra special as my best friend flew in from from Kentucky and stayed with us for the week. Danica took to her immediately and now calls her Dede!! We walked all over the fair (for over 6 hours!!) in and out of each building, looking at all the vendor booths, art exhibits, sculptures, fruits, veggies, desserts, jams, quilts and so on. We took our time and walked around all the animals which Danica loved the goats, sheep (baaaas) pigs, cows and horses. Living in the city now days, it is a little harder to get your kids connected with nature and whenever the fair comes, I feel it is the perfect time to get a healthy dose of animals and nature all in one.
We ate our hearts out and completely overindulged. But every bite was worth it and all I can say is I wish I could have stayed longer to visit with more friends.
